Mule Deer in our area until 2006 was an over the counter tag for Alberta residents and this made finding a trophy buck very difficult. In 2006 the resident hunting of mule deer was put on a by draw basis and the harvesting of bucks in our area was substantially reduced. Every year since then we have seen a good increase in the number and size of the bucks.
These Trophy Mule Deer are not as numerous or of the same trophy caliber that is found in Southern Alberta, however, they are still very respectable bucks. We have six permits for Mule Deer in our zone and anyone is welcome to add a Mule Deer to their Whitetail hunt.
Typically Mule Deer are found in a few key areas within our unit and anyone purchasing a Mule Deer tag will be allocated in one of those areas. Please note that it is not uncommon to see Mule and Whitetail deer from the same stand and on the same day.
These tags will be available on a first come - first served bases.
